Munda Walgalu Country Chardonnay 2022 (Tumbarumba, NSW)
A wet winter & spring, followed by late season frosts and hail resulting in a low yield of very high quality.
March 18th 2022
Crushed and a gentle air bag press with 100% fermentation in seasoned French Oak barriques, with 100% malolactic fermentation.
100% maturation in seasoned French Oak for 8 months. Bottled mid March 2023.
Aromas of light white stone fruit and white flowers, citrus, beeswax, toasted muesli and nuts, with background exotic spices.
The palate is textural and full flavoured with restrained yet complexing oak use. The wine is balanced and has a fine acidity that is balanced and gives a focused line to the palate.
7-10 years in the right cellaring conditions.
LISA CARDELLI, WINE PILOT – 96Pts
“Intense aromas of lemon pith, quince, nectarine, mandarin zest, yellow blossom, pink grapefruit, with a mineral-salty sharp edge going through. A vibrant, yet seductive/velvety acidity, with a strong mid palate presence as you almost sucking into a Meyer lemon or freshly shucked oyster. It’s a Chardonnay with a well-defined “six-pack” and the athletic silhouette of an Olympic 100m runner. A runner that keeps the momentum until the very end of the sprint, with an incredibly savoury/nutty, citrusy, juicy aftertaste. If this is the Walgalu Country (Tumbarumba) speaking, then I’m all ears.”
